Shasta-Ashland Pilgrimage

Willa and Joy in the New Kitchen

We made our annual late summer drive up to Ashland and Mount Shasta last week. Willa’s mother Joy has sold her home and moved into a very cute town house.

We always try to visit Bishop Anya when we go to Ashland. We met in her home. She applied some herbs, stones, and infusions to help me with my cardiac healing.

Bishop Anya

Ashland has experienced quite a hit from the recession. The last time we were there was in 2009. I played jazz with different people in several places, and there with different groups and there was a thriving jazz culture.

No more. All the clubs that used to support jazz are closed or under new management.

Siting in at the Avalon

The Avalon, which used to have jazz every night, now has it only once or less a week, and I was told the club has been sold. Nevertheless I did sit in with pianist and vocalist Alan Berman on our way out of town, whose trio has a once-a-month Sunday afternoon at the Avalon.

Mt. Shasta, an hour’s drive South back into Oregon, has also been hit by the recession. We were not able to find any A-level restaurants this time around, but Willa got some great teas at SereniTea.

Our main reason for the pilgrimage to Mt. Shasta is to visit and do practice/ritual at our private stone altar high on the mountain and to visit Panther Meadows–sometimes to collect spring water. Since 2009, however, the Forest Service has implemented stringent rules to protect and revegetate the area. These are good, but also repressive. Panther Meadows has been for generations sacred not just to the Indians, but to spiritual people all over the world. A walk on the stony paths revealed stone altars with crystals, medicine wheels, prayer flags, and various other sacred objects.

New and Old Paths to Panther Meadows

Again I have to say, no more. It is illegal to leave crystals behind. What a shame! The Forest Service should allow for places along the path where people can do rituals and make altars. One of the first changes we saw was on the evening before the Full Moon, when we arrived at Panther Meadows. The path people have used for generations has been obliterated and a new one laid down by the Forest Service. In the photo above, the old path went up the stony hill on the left side of the photo (to Willa’s right). The new path circles around starting on the right side of the photo (to Willa’s left).

Here is another evening panorama I took from Mt. Shasta of the mountains to the South.

Full Moon Panorama from Mt. Shasta

The next day at the beginning of the Full Moon tithi, we climbed to our altar. Willa did a fire puja while I meditated and then did cleansings and blessings.

Bishop Anya gave us directions to a new Peace Garden that is in process of construction in Mt. Shasta. It is open to the public and can be found at the first left off-street parking place in Ski View Road, left off the main road up the mountain across from the ski shop beyond the high school.

You will find this sign on the path:

My Cardiac Catheter Ablation for Atrial Fibrillation

On July 16 I was admitted to Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City for a catheter ablation procedure. This was after three years of increasing a-fib and failure of several drugs to control it. A-fib is a common heart arrhythmia that millions of Americans experience. While not life-threatening, it creates a much higher risk of stroke because the upper atria of the heart beat fruitlessly while blood pools and clots can form. It is also very uncomfortable, causing fast heartbeat (120-135 b/m) and weakness. My cardiologist recommended Dr. Patrawala at Sequoia for the procedure, as he has done hundreds of successful procedures and the hospital cardiac arrhythmia faculty has a success rate of 80-90%.

Here’s how it works. First several weeks of anti-coagulation drugs (Coumadin/Warfarin), then a week of self-injected Heparin/Lovanox).

Cather Ablation Procedure

The procedure involves inserting catheters through the femoral artery in the groin, threading them up into the heart, piercing the chamber wall that separates right from left atrium, finding the four blood vessels that are conduits for the uncontrolled nerve impulses that cause fibrillation, and stopping their random electrical impulses through forms of cauterization. As the heart heals over several month, during which anti-coagulation drugs are continued to guard against post-operative clots, the scar tissue acts as

Ablating the Bad Electrical Circuits

insulation to deactivate the bad electrical circuits. Often only one procedure is needed, but sometime another is required if a-fib returns.

When I awakened in my hospital bed after the procedure, I recorded the following memo on my iPhone. Hospital Memo Edited

It was a difficult decision to undertake this heart procedure, but if successful it would optimize my health for my Blessing Voyage. Rebuilt heart, new diesel engine for the boat–good ideas!

Mother Jennie 1976

Mother Jennie 1976

But the thing that gave me the conviction to move ahead was a message my Teacher Mother Jennie gave me right before she died thirty years ago–a message I’d never thought was important, as it was an afterthought to a major message, but that I stumbled upon when I was trying to make the decision. I’d written it thirty years ago on the back cover of a paperback New English Bible and never re-read that part of the message. She had said, “One more thing. Science is advancing far beyond its present horizon and will be to the utmost advantage in diagnostic investigation of present seemingly incurable conditions…” I took that as an omen and moved ahead with the ablation.

Mother of the World Memorial Feast August 15, 2010

August 15 is celebrated in Eastern Orthodoxy as the feast of the death-day or Dormition (“going to sleep”) of Mary, the Mother of Jesus. Historically, she travelled with the Apostles Mary Magdalene and John to Asia Minor, who established the original churches in Ephesus and elsewhere. Both Mary the mother of Jesus and Mary Magdalene were a generation older than Jesus and died of old age in Asia Minor. Although the Feast of Mary Magdalene is celebrated on June 22 in the Orthodox, Roman, and Anglican church years, it was never understood to be her death-day. It is possible that August 15 is the day Mary Magdalene died and not the mother of Jesus, since the Magdalene was both Apostle and instructress of John, thus a foundational teacher of the first churches in Asia Minor. Centuries later when the christological debates about whether Jesus was Godhead or merely Christ were focussed on whether the mother of Jesus was Christotokos (“bearer of Christ” in her womb) or Theotokos (“bearer of Godhead”), the veneration of Mary the Mother of Jesus eclipsed that of the Magdalene. The two Mary’s may have been conflated into the Virgin Mary and the death-date of the Magdalene on August 15 designated as the death-day or Dormition of Mother Mary.

Assumption of the Virgin Mary

In any case, after this era we find August 15 celebrated in the Roman Catholic church year as the Feast of the Assumption (ascension into Heaven) of the Virgin Mary.

The Holy Sophia, Mother of the World (Universe)

Modern gnostic churches like that of Bishop Rosamonde Miller celebrate August 15 as the Ascension, Redemption, or Return of the Holy Sophia (Hebrew Kabbalistic Hochmah) to the Pleroma.

In Russian Orthodoxy, the Mother of Jesus became the universal Mother of the World, like the Kore Kosmou of Hermetic doctrine or the Holy Sophia of the Byzantine age.

Here is Roerich’s image of the Mother of the World:

The Mother of the World(s)

On August 15, 2009–the traditional date of the death and ascension of Mother Mary (possibly Mary Magdalene), of Sophia, and of the Mother of the World–our dear friend, Home Temple Bishop, and Sufi Sheik Dr. Tofah Eileen died after a long struggle with brain cancer.

Dr. Tofah Eileen, Bishop

One year later, on August 15, 2010, we celebrated our own Feast of the death-day, dormition, sssumption, and liberation of Bishop Tofah Eileen, whom we recognize as an emanation of the Mother of the World. She was one of the most beloved people in Santa Cruz, California.

She was raised in a Basque family of Roman Catholics, but became an interfaith Sufi, independent Home Temple Bishop, and a practicing Vajrayana Buddhist.

She established and led the Sufi Universal Dances of Peace and hosted many different spiritual groups, meetings, and classes at The Garden Sanctuary.

She and husband Jay created and beautified the Garden Sanctuary with their own hands over many years of labor. It became one of the sacred places of Santa Cruz. In addition to being an accomplished carpenter and gardener, Tofah was also a healer, musician, massage therapist, and counseling minister.

The Garden Sanctuary is unique in Santa Cruz. It includes a sacred garden, pond, spiral labyrinth, outdoor gazebo for gatherings that also is decorated as a Booth for Sukoth, an indoor sanctuary and spiritual meeting/lecture hall, and the Garden Center for Complementary Healing. Website is http://www.thegardensanctuary.com/index.htm. Husband Jay continues to operate the Garden. Here are a few photos:

Those who gathered with Willa and me for our Eacharistic table seder and feast on August 15 included Bishop Marita, Bishop Daniel, Mother Ellie, Tofah’s husband Jay, and other friends. We used the short form of the Messianic Banquet that I plan to use for potluck communion services on my voyage around the world.

Here is the Yanmar 3GM30F

I drove nearly four hours to Hidden Harbor Marina on Grand Isle deep in the Delta today to see and hear the nearly new engine Bill will uninstall from the abandoned boat and install in my C&C 34 next week. I delivered the $5000 cashiers check. Great–no state tax.

The Yanmar is impeccable. It has about 100 hours on it only in fresh Delta water and is virtually new. It is much lighter and quieter than my Yanmar 2QM20H, which I sold a few days ago to a Santa Cruz sailor who will pick it up in Alameda Marina once it comes out of my boat. Unlike the 30-year old engine I’m replacing, it is fresh-water cooled and is the newest design, just a few years old.

Here are photos I took from inside the abandoned boat, which was already partially disassembled:

Nearly new!

My fractured left foot has nearly healed so I can walk in a shoe rather than a metal boot, and my swollen and massively bruised right leg from cather ablation through the femoral artery exacerbated by blood thinners is about halfway healed. My heart is supposed to be healed in another 2-3 weeks. So I can slowly stumble around getting work done. Bill will be installing the new engine on S/V Legacy next week. I plan to go out on Bruce and Bridget’s boat with them in about two weeks, then perhaps an overnight to Halfmoon Bay with them on Legacy. After than an overnight sail on Legacy to Monterey Bay to test systems and routines.

What Telescope Stuff has to do with Diesel Engines

All my life I have been an amateur astronomer and astrophotographer. Over the past several years I had simplified and upgraded my telescopes, mount, CCD cameras, and other equipment to the highest level I could afford–it’s all a compromise with Mammon. I had excellent equipment, but cloudy skies all this El Nino winter and summer, so have been unable to do much astrophotography.

After doing my best to make lemonade out of a lemon, my 30-year-old Yanmar 2QM20 raw water cooled diesel boat engine, I have finally had to take seriously what my mechanic Bill had been telling me–don’t rely on this engine. A new engine and installation would cost $14,000 now, but later in French Polynesia or Egypt more like $30,000! Recently I had to call Vessel Assist after my engine failed. After some prayer and a talk with Bill, he called to tell me that he had a nearly new Yanmar 3GM30F he could install for me–$5000 for engine, $3000 for labor. He had originally installed this engine new on a sailboat four years ago, which was sold to a fellow who got in trouble with the law and abandoned it at the marina with only about 50 hours on the engine. The Harbormaster finally had to go through all the legal procedures to take possession to pay several years of unpaid back slip rental, and the whole process would be completed in a few weeks. So I called the Harbormaster, secured the engine sale, and started trying to figure out how to raise money. Aha! Astronomy equipment! I listed all my stuff on Astromart internet classifieds and put up a page on the hometemple.org site called ASTRO SALE listing everything. The page is at http://www.hometemple.org/astro.htm. I put out all the ads Friday morning. It is now Sunday, and I’ve sold 90% of my hobby, raising about $2500. I also sold my old Yanmar engine yesterday for $650–the guy gets it in two weeks when Bill pulls it out of my boat. And $650 was high price for that old engine everywhere on the internet! So here is a webcam photo of me and a whole lot of Priority Mail boxes I’ve packed up for sending out Monday when the Post Office opens, plus my sweet Celestron 9.25″ Schmidt Cassesgrain, which will go out UPS.

Goodbye, Friends!

The $5000 for the new engine will come out of our line of credit on our home, and the $3000 of mechanical labor to install it will come from astronomy equipment sales.

Keith Campbell’s News Release on my Excommunication of the Pope

Browse: Home / , , / Independent Bishop Excommunicates Pope

Independent Bishop Excommunicates Pope

By Reverend Keith on July 20, 2010

pope2 As you may or may not know, Pope Benedict recently directed that anyone who attempts to ordain a woman to the priesthood, and any woman who is ordained, is automatically excommunicated from the Roman Catholic Church. In response to that, my bishop, Bishop Lewis Keizer, presiding bishop of the Home Temple, formally excommunicated Pope Benedict last Sunday (July 18th 2010) at a ceremony in Aromas California.

Bishop_Lewis2
Bishop Keizer

I’ve written elsewhere on this site about  Bishop Keizer, who is probably the most learned man I know on the subjects of esoteric and mystical Christianity. Bishop Keizer and the Home Temple are part of the Independent Catholic movement, has all the twenty two known lines of apostolic authority (far more than the Pope, as it happens). Bishop Keizer, who ordained me to the priesthood, has also been ordaining women for years.

Bishop Keizer explained that he took this action in honor of Mary Magdalene and the scores of other women in the early Christian period who served in positions of leadership and authority, but who were systematically written out of official church history – the Magdalene herself being falsely stigmatized as a prostitute.

The formal decree prescribing excommunication for those who ordain women comes from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, a name changed in 1965 from the original (historically infamous) name of the Holy Office of the Inquisition. Pope Benedict himself, in his former name of Joseph Ratzinger, presided over this body, which enforces the doctrinal decrees of the Vatican.

Below I’ve included the youtube video of Bishop Keizer’s announcement, as well as the texts of the rationale for the excommunication and the ceremony itself. Those women (and men) who feel called to priesthood are invited to visit Bishop Keizer’s website at www.hometemple.org and look into his seminary program.

TEXT OF RATIONALE

“I don’t excommunicate people. But I am excommunicating the Pope in order to empower a subtle and invisible spiritual process that will result in his removal from leadership of the Roman Catholic Church, and replacement by a Pope grounded in the true historical teachings of Yeshua, the Master Jesus, which are embedded in every human heart through the Image of Godhead and the Yetzer Ha-Tov or Good Motive, and opposed by the Yetzer Ha-Ra or Evil or Egoistic Motive. The current Pope represents the wrong-headed ideals of the medieval Council for the Inquisition, which resulted in massive injustice and genocide against my spiritual predecessors, the so-called heretics. The name of the Inquisition council was recently changed for public relation purposes to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith or CDF, and before he was Pope, Joseph Ratzinger served as Prefect or head of that order, which deals out punishment for grave offenses against Catholic Canon Law. This week, in his role as Pope Benedict XVI, Ratzinger has ordered the CDF to deal out retribution against Catholic Bishops who ordain women Priests-another major wrongheaded step backwards in a series of Ratinger’s zealous revival of Inquisition-era mentality that will probably result in the future bankruptcy and demise of Catholic Christianity. I am an independent Bishop with all twenty-two extant lines of valid Apostolic Succession, even more Apostolic lineages than the Pope has, since mine also include the so-called heretical lineages. I have been training, ordaining, and consecrating women Priests and Bishops for over thirty years in the Home Temple, and I have great faith in the spiritual and institutional leadership insights of women in partnership with men.
Being a scholar/Bishop grounded in the authentic teachings of Yeshua, I have the right, the authority, the responsibility, and the power to excommunicate this Pope for the benefit of all beings, and for the sake of a future Catholic Church and the New Humanity that is now coming into manifestation as proclaimed by the Master Jesus, and that is need of spiritual leadership that represents the humanistic wisdom and compassion that emanate from the authentic Heart and Mind of Christ within.”

TEXT OF RITUAL DONE IN THE CONTEXT OF THE MESSIANIC SEDER MASS

“In the Name of Mar Yeshua, the Master Jesus, and for the Honor of the scores of women leaders of the original home congregations of Christians saluted in the authentic Epistles of Paul, but later denounced in the Pseudo-Pauline Epistles composed by a later generation who used Paul’s authority as a tool in their campaign to systematically ban women from church leadership, and for the great woman Apostle Miriam Magdalene, who was finally declared in the third century to be identical with the anonymous repentant prostitute of the Synoptic Gospels in a final attempt defame female leadership in the churches:
I, Dr. Lewis Keizer, Presiding Bishop of the Home Temple, validly holding and transmitting all twenty-two extant lines of Apostolic Succession from the Master Yeshua, training and ordaining both men and women Deacons, Priests, and Bishops for home ministry and volunteer interfaith chaplaincies for over thirty years, joined by Bishops Willa and Daniel, this day, Sunday, July 18, 2010,  do hereby Excommunicate from the community of the truly faithful the man called Pope Benedict XVI, Joseph A. Ratzinger, former Prefect for the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith or CDF, which was known in earlier centuries as the Supreme Sacred Congregation of the Roman and Universal Inquisition. Pope Benedict XVI this week made the ordination of women into a crime against Canon Law equivalent in gravity to the crime of child molestation by Catholic priests, and making Bishops who ordain women to Priesthood referable to the CDF for punishment. Catholic Bishops cannot be excommunicated or stripped of their Apostolic Consecration, but they can be deposed from their sees and salaries. The Home Temple has no such rules regarding excommunication of Bishops, and thus we formally Excommunicate Pope Benedict XVI from the Body of Christ, which is the body of Bar-Enash, the so-called Son-of-man Messiah, the Second Adam, the New Humanity.”
[All Bishops put hands on candle and Lewis extinguishes it. Lewis declares: "So be it!" Willa and Daniel answer: "And so it is!"]
LEWIS: And now may the Spirit of the Eternal One and the Mind of Christ arise from within the heart of humanity to provide true spiritual leadership, not only in the Roman Catholic Church, but in all the Christian churches, based on the Halakah of spiritual life and the coming Sovereignty of God’s Way within the New Humanity taught and proclaimed by the Master Jesus. May the atavistic doctrines and dogmas of men opposing science, birth control, human love in all its expressions, and the leadership of women, be overcome and replaced by the love and wisdom of Christ that dwells in the heart of the New Humanity SO BE IT, AND SO IT IS! . Amen Amen Amen.”

My Crew for the First Leg of Circumnavigation

For my first leg of some 1500 miles of coastal cruising from San Francisco to the Mexican Sea of Cortez my crew will be Bruce and Bridget Eastman. He is a retired college counselor, she a retired nurse practitioner. They have an Alberg 35 classic sailboat they want to take to Mexico next year, but want to go down with me this year for the experience. All in all, a mutually beneficial partnership because I don’t want to lose sleep doing night watches 24-7. They are both good sailors, too.

We have been taking Legacy out on SF Bay to test systems and learn the ropes. Our most recent was an overnight to Angel Island, where we tried out the new-to-me Evinrude outboard motor with the Avon hypalon dinghy. I should say they tried it out because I had a fractured foot in a metal boot and couldn’t go out in the dinghy very safely.

Click on this link AngelIsland for some lower-quality video I took with my iPhone. Most future videos will be taken on a HD Panasonic Lumix camera or a high-quality Logitec web cam.
